Help for the Calderon Family

In June of this year my husband Carlos, was experiencing debilitating back pain following a break in his clavicle bone which kept him from working. Thinking it was a result of a labor intensive job, we didn’t think much of it. As the weeks went, the back pain only worsened. That’s when he was diagnosed with a compression fracture in his spine from T6-T7 as a result of cancer, Mutliple Myeloma. This diagnosis was a shock to the family, but our biggest concern was having his back fixed. We thought we had faced our greatest challenge, but fate had more in store for us. During the long, gut-wrenching 9 hour surgery to fix and stabilize his back, he suffered major complications. His blood pressure plummeted causing the electricity in his spine to decrease which left him paralyzed from the waist down.

The physical and emotional toll of cancer and paralysis has been overwhelming for us and our children.

As you can imagine, the medical expenses associated with cancer treatments, rehabilitation, adaptive equipment, and home modifications have placed a significant financial burden on us. We are reaching out to our friends, family, and the compassionate community in the hope of easing this financial strain and ensuring Carlos receives the best care possible. While working full time, I became a full time caretaker as insurance doesn’t cover Home Health Aid (HHA) for now.
