Help for the Boruds

“Some people come into our lives and quickly go.  Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.”  During the 2017-2018 school year I had the pleasure of being Ethan Borud’s first grade teacher.  This sweet boy changed my life and made me better at what I do. Ethan taught me my greatest lessons in kindness, patience, and love.  You see, Ethan is a young boy that has Autism. Ethan grew so much during his first grade year. Ethan truly has left footprints on my heart.

While working with Ethan I really got attached to his family.  Ethan has 3 older brothers; Kaleb, Hunter, and Cody. He is so fortunate to have the love and support of both his mom, Jennifer, and dad, Stephen.

On June 21st, while Ethan was playing on his four-wheeler on their property he was bitten by a baby Rattlesnake.  The snake bit through his shoe sending him immediately to Wyoming Medical Center. While on the way, they were met by the ambulance, which took him lights and sirens blasting, the rest of the way into town.  Once at Wyoming Medical Center, Ethan was given 4 rounds of Anti-Venom. It was then decided that he should be Life Flighted to St. Luke’s Presbyterian in Denver. Once at St. Luke’s, he was given an additional 12 rounds of Anti-Venom.  Ethan and his momma spent a total of 4 days at St. Luke’s before returning home to start physical therapy and the healing process.

On September 13th, at 3:15 on her way to pick-up Ethan from school, Jen and Hunter were hit by another vehicle that ran a stop sign.  This accident did extensive damage to the family’s vehicle. Hunter faired well in the accident and Jen initially thought that she did too.  They went to football that evening where Jen got a pretty bad headache and bad neck pain. Once at the hospital the ER doctor ordered a CT scan.  This CT scan and eventually an MRI showed that Jen had no damage from the car accident but instead had a MASSIVE Brain Tumor on her pineal gland inferiorly, extending along the medial aspect of the right lateral ventricle, and ending at the level of the upper aspect of the lateral ventricles.  Jen had zero symptomes of this brain tumor before the car accident. She describes the car accident as a lesson in fate and faith. Jen will be going to Denver for an appointment with an expert Neurologist on October 18th. She has been told by the local neurologist that she should be scheduled for a serious brain surgery shortly after her initial appointment.  She has also been told that she will be in Denver at UC Health for a minimum of 3 weeks and possibly as long at 3 months. This means that Jen will be out of work and accruing daily hospital bills. After the tumor is removed it will be determined if the tumor is benign or cancer. The local neurologist believes it is benign, so please pray that he is correct and that this tumor will be removed and that Jen will be able to continue her life with the love of her life and their 4 boys without anymore troubles.

The Boruds need a BREAK!  They need our help!!!! Ethan’s snake bite expenses were $5,200.00 out of pocket.  Jen has not even really started seeing bills for her fight.  She will also be out of work, unpaid, while she recovers.  What is know is that this family of 6 really needs the support of their family, friends, and community, so that they can fight the good fight and stay strong for Jen so that she can have this surgery, fight through recovery, and then continue living her incredible life and grow old with her Stephen.  Every little bit helps the Boruds catch a break. This family was brought into my life because of a little boy named Ethan, who I believe god placed with me for so many reasons. Please give what you are able, to help this family out. The Boruds are humble folks who need help, and I know they will be so grateful. Please pray for Jen as she begins her fight.  Please pray her boys and hubby will have strength and determination to continue doing their daily activities while Jen is away in Denver. Please pray for Ethan’s complete recovery from the snake bite. Please share this page!!
