Theodore (Teddy) was born on April 28th weighing in at 5lbs 15oz and 18in. Teddy’s first week of life was spent at home but unfortunately, he showed some concerning signs of illness, specifically throwing up green bile. His parents took him to the ER in Frisco, CO where they gave him some fluids and advised he be taken to Children’s Hospital if the green throw up continued.
On Wednesday May 5th, Teddy’s parents took him to the ER at Children’s Hospital in Highlands Ranch, CO where they performed some tests. He was then transported by ambulance to the Children’s Hospital main campus in Aurora, CO for further testing and possible surgery. Upon their arrival, they met with a pediatric surgeon who determined Teddy was suffering from a midgut volvulus, or in other words a malrotation of the intestinal track. The surgeon then took Teddy directly to the operating room for an emergency procedure to fix the issue.
Malrotation is a rare prenatal abnormality in which a baby's intestine doesn't form or rotate in the right way in their abdomen. It occurs early in pregnancy (around the 10th week) and develops when a baby's intestine fails to coil into the proper position.
Teddy underwent two surgeries to correct the malrotation. After 17 days in the NICU at Children’s Hospital, Teddy was released to go home on Saturday May 22nd. Teddy is now back home and doing wonderfully in his recovery.
We are all extremely grateful to the incredible staff at Children’s Hospital for all of the help, support and medical treatment they have provided to Teddy and his parents. We are also grateful to the Ronald McDonald Houses in Denver and Aurora for providing Teddy’s parents with a place to stay nearby during his time in the hospital.
We are now asking for help to support Teddy and his family by raising money to help pay off the medical debt and the additional incurred expenses that come with being away from home for so long. At this time, we don’t know what the total cost will be for the extensive treatments and care (ER visits, ambulance transport, surgeries, NICU stay, etc.). We are hoping to alleviate some of the financial stress when the bills start to come in, so that Teddy’s family can focus all of their energy on his continued recovery.
Please help Teddy and his family if you are able. Any and all help is immensely appreciated!
