Help for Taco's Cancer Surgery

Our beautiful 4-year-old American Bully, Taco, was diagnosed with an aggressive oral cancer tumor called Fibrosarcoma. She underwent an excisional surgery on February 6, 2023, and a quarter of her tongue was removed.

We received the pathology results on February 20th at which point we learned of this heartbreaking diagnosis and the aggressive nature of this tumor type. Unfortunately, it was reported that the microscopic margins were not clear and that there was still evidence of cancer remaining. Our vet advised us to watch and wait for recurrence for up to 1-2 months before a second surgery should be considered.

Today, February 27th, a recurrence of the tumor has been observed at the surgical site. Just 3 short weeks after her initial surgery. Taco has been immediately scheduled for another resection surgery of her tounge on March 6th, 2023. Dr. White proposes to remove the recurrent tumor as well as up to 1 inch of a margin around it in hopes of clearing it. Additionally, it is the standard of care that she undergoes chemo or radiation to follow.

We are currently financially recovering from her initial surgery 3 weeks ago and understand the urgency of getting her next surgery without delay considering how quickly and aggressively the cancer appears to be growing.

We greatly appreciate any assistance to help extend her life and the possibility of a positive outcome. We understand that the survival rate is only a few months without surgery. We are faced with the decision of finding a balance between what is reasonable for Taco's quality of life and what we can realistically expect and afford. Her survival rate increases greatly if the surgery is a success and we feel it is worth a fair chance.

Taco has brought enormous fun and joy into our lives and the lives of all who know her. Even with all she has been through so far, she is energetic and full of life. Many of our friends have asked if there is anything they can do to let them know. We think now is that critical time that things are getting to a point beyond our scope.
