This page has been created for a beautiful, bubbly, BRAVE 26 year old woman and a handsome blue chow chow named Zeus.
On Friday, December 2, a family member of ours with an untreated mental illness opened fire on my cousin, Star and her family. In an attempt to investigate/save/find her mother after shots were fired inside the home, Star was shot in the shoulder. By the grace of God- after she and her family fled the home and continued to get shot at- Star walked away with JUST an injured shoulder. JUST a shoulder injury!! I say “just” because it could have been so much worse. This shot was inches away from puncturing a lung and even closer to puncturing an artery. Star could be dead. My entire family involved that night could all be dead. Multiple shots were fired at sickeningly close range and our entire family walked (figuratively speaking) away ALIVE!
So let's get to the point. Star was rushed to the hospital, stabilized, and then transferred to a different hospital to await surgery on her shattered shoulder. She now has a metal rod in her left arm. She is in great spirits, but the financial stress during this time of healing is inevitable. Star will be unable to work for an unknown amount of time, and therefore will be unable to bring in any form of income. The physical injuries seem more than enough to cope with; however, the emotional and psychological injuries outweigh them. Already the grief, devastation, fear, and sadness are of a proportion I have never seen. This is where this GoFundMe page comes in. ANYTHING helps. Anything extra means a little less stress on a family who has had their world rocked.
There's another side to this story, another reason for this page. I'm sure you all know one of those people who treat their pets like family. I'm sure you all know someone who loves their pets so much it’s nearly nauseating. Those people- are my family. .
Zeus- a HANDSOME blue chow chow was also shot that night as my family was fleeing their home. As an amazing act of kindness a local veterinary hospital treated Zeus free of charge (THANK YOU!), however, Zeus may possibly need surgery to fix the damages caused by the shot. We are still unaware if this will be needed, but if it is, it will have to be done at a specialty hospital and will cost thousands.
I know Christmas is fast approaching, and if you can’t donate, we totally understand. There’s something else you can do for us. Educate yourself on mental illness. REMOVE THE STIGMA. A family member who we LOVE opened fire on people that she LOVES because of mental illness.
Be aware of the signs, behaviors, and triggers. Get help. Get help AGAIN… and then AGAIN!
