On Tuesday evening, May 25, 2021, Ava, who just turned 3 years old on May 19th, wasn't feeling well and had a fever. She was throwing up and nauseated.  Throughout the next day,  she would get tired easily and still throw up. That evening after work, my sister Naly (her mom) called the clinic and they told her to take her into urgent care to be seen and get her blood drawn. After the blood draw,  they found out that Ava's white blood count was extremely high at 39,000 instead of below 14,000. The doctor at the urgent care told them that they had to get her to Children's Minnesota in Minneapolis right away. Confused and scared, Naly drove there and even went in the wrong direction towards oncoming traffic as she was so scared and frightened.   At the hospital,  her worse nightmare was confirmed that Ava had Leukemia.

To confirm what kind of Leukemia, they had to draw blood, do a spinal and a bone marrow biopsy on Ava and put a portacath in place for her ongoing chemo treatments. Ava is finally home now, but with ongoing treatments, my sister will have to stop working and stay home full time with Ava as she'll need an adult with her 24/7 to care for her. Ava will be receiving chemo twice a week along with going to OT, PT and seeing a Speech therapist.

Also,  on May 7, 2021, Naly's 16 year old daughter, Nouchy, started to have seizures.  The Dr's confirmed that her EEG came back abnormal with right temporal intermittent slowing and some bursts of epiletiform discharges that means her brain is at a higher risk for having more seizures.  She is currently taking Keppra on a daily basis to control her seizures everyday for the next 2 years as well.
