In loving memory of Iris Loza, mother of 6

Donation protected
Hello,
My cousin is currently fighting for her life at Howard University Hospital, her name is Iris Loza.

Iris is a loving, caring and selfless single mother of 6 children.
On November 20th she had an Endometrial Ablation performed, it was supposed to be an in and out procedure, she was released just a few hours after.
A few hours after she was released, she started experiencing severe pain so she called an ambulance and she was taken to the ER; later that night she was released again and was told it was a mixture of food poisoning and cramps from the procedure. The next morning on November 21st, still in excruciating pain, she went back to the hospital. They admitted her for observation and after seeing that she wasn’t improving they decided to perform something called an “exploratory surgery” where they soon realized that a few organs had been damaged/burned during the original ablation. Her OBGYN managed to damage two areas of her intestine, her bladder and her uterus. Due to the leakage into her abdomen from the damage in her intestine, she fell into septic shock. It has now been 1 month and 17 days since she’s been in the hospital in very critical condition and during all this time, there has been many other complications. Due to the sepsis, her lungs got severely damaged, she developed ARDS and due to this complication they were forced to put her on life support as a last resort because she wasn’t responding to ventilator therapy or any other treatment; she is currently still fighting this complication. She also developed a gastric hemorrhage which left us fearing that she wasn’t going to make it, they had to replace the total blood volume of her body at least 3 times according to the doctors. They have told us that Iris has a 50/50 chance of making it out of this alive but we are a family of faith and we believe that God will raise her from that hospital bed and restore her health. We’re trying to stay positive through it all and be supportive during these hard times.

Her children all have been staying with her sister and her mother with the youngest only being 1 year old, the second one being 4, twin girls at the age of 13 and 2 boys one age 16 and 17. They wish nothing more than to see their mother home again; it’s been extremely hard for them not seeing their mom, their rock, they miss their mommy.

I’m asking for lots of prayers as the road to recovery for Iris will be long. We, her immediate family, are still in the wake of this devastating tragedy. It’s difficult to imagine what the future holds but we know that Iris will never cease to be strong, brilliant, beautiful and loving, she is definitely a fighter! We simply need to be able to support her along this journey. We are asking for your help to cover care for the children, medical bills, transportation, and food costs for our family as we support her during this time. She will also need support for when she gets released, she will still have many more months of recovery post-hospital and won’t be able to return to work. She is the sole provider for her children, so not being able to work is going to be another added hardship. Your support means the world to Iris and to all of us.

If you have questions feel free to contact me or her sister who has put her life on hold to tend to her sister.
Thank you and God bless you and your loved ones!
