Hello everyone,
In June of 2020, our lives were completely turned upside down. After numerous hospital and walk in visits, plus telephone consultations with the different medical specialists, Shawn (Yongfu Xiong Yang) 44, was given the devastating diagnosis that he had stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on top of his already known Heart Disease (CVD).
Not only has Shawn been diagnosed with this horrible disease, he was told that he also had a heart valve leakage at a time when the whole world has spent most of 2020 in isolation. Meaning he has had to spend most of his time in and out of clinics, laboratories, and in quarantine away from friends and family because he is at higher risk. Although his kidneys were the most critical and needed immediate attention, no treatment could get done until his heart valve was assessed and repaired.
In August, a planned outpatient visit to evaluate his leaky heart valve ended in an unexpected two and half weeks hospital stay resulting with an open heart/triple bypass surgery. Also, with the condition of his kidneys, dialysis treatment was started while in the hospital. Since returning home Shawn has continued to make weekly trips three days a week to have dialysis treatment to help his kidneys function. Just recently, he has transitioned dialysis treatments from in center clinic visits to daily dialysis done at home and will continue to do so.
Shawn was devastated as he had always been so independent and on the go helping other people, seeing to the kids and his home. All his independence was taken away from him and he really struggled with this. Whether you know Shawn or not, you’ll find out that he is the warmest, most family focused and optimistic person. He has always made his four daughters, son, grandson and wife his priority over himself.
As we all know, health insurance does not cover all costs for medical services. Therefore, we are humbly seeking for donations for assistance with medical expenses that includes hospital stays, medications, treatments, and rehabilitation costs. Anything you are willing to donate will be graciously accepted. We would like to take some financial burden out of the question so that Shawn can focus on getting healthy.
Thank you in advance to all of our family, friends, and strangers for all of your thoughts, love, prayers, encouraging messages and donations. It really does mean the world to us, and if Shawn were in the other position we know he would be the first to help. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
Our sincerest thanks for your support,
The Family of Shawn (Yongfu Xiong Yang)
