Help For Shaun O'Hara and his Family

Donation protected

Hi everyone this has been set up on behalf of myself, Yvonne, Sylvia, John and Cathy for my Brother In-Law Shaun and his family.

Shaun is 35 years old, a devoted Husband and father. In September 2020 he was diagnosed with an incurable aggressive Germ Cell Cancer.

Shaun has always been extremely hard-working in a demanding and sometime dangerous occupation as a steel - erector. It has never been in Shaun's nature to complain or take time off work. As the main provider for his family, he has always been devoted husband to childhood sweetheart Ainsley and father to son Riley. Working hard for his family has been Shaun's sole priority.

After months battling increasingly severe pain, The pain became so excruciating that Shaun was even unable to sit or stand for any length of time. In spite of this, he forced himself to continue working as much as possible since the family could not afford to loose a wage. Frequent visits to the GP surgery and A&E failed to find the cause of the pain until eventually, after a fall in A&E, an XRay revealed Shaun had a fractured spine. Shaun was sent home and a MRI Scan was arranged but before this could be done Shaun began to lose the feeling and power in his legs and was admitted to hospital as an emergency.

Investigations in hospital finally revealed the diagnosis and the devastating extant of disease. A very aggressive tumour was surrounding the spine and causing spinal cord compression. It was also invading the chest. 15 Weeks of intensive and debilitating Chemotherapy finished on Christmas Eve 2020 under Lockdown conditions, meaning Shaun had to spend 8 weeks in the Beatson in Glasgow on his own, unable to have visitors and having to cope not only with the devastating news, but also the extremely unpleasant side effects of the Chemo.

Shaun is now at home having recently completed a course of palliative radiotherapy to the spine to relieve the spinal cord compression. This has helped symptomatically but Shaun's condition has not and will never return to normal. Shaun's mobility has been badly affected and as a result Shaun is mostly in a wheelchair. This needs to change and the house requires many adaptions to make it suitable for Shaun's care, Special equipment will also be required to help Shaun.

For all these reasons we decided to make this page to help raise some money to help Shaun and Ainsley make these adaptions and equipment needed to help make life a little easier for them. Any donation you can make is much appreciated ..

Thank You.
