Help send Serenity Joy to Onsite-Mental Health

If you know Serenity Joy (Joy to many of us), she has probably helped you with something, listened to you, gone out of her way for you, and made you laugh.  She's been doing all of those things and more for me since we met at summer camp 29 years ago.

Like many bright souls, Joy struggles with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.  She has struggled with this since I've known her, and though she promised me years ago she would never take her own life, I hate to see her living a life where she wakes up disappointed to still be alive.  She has advocated for her own mental health since she was a teenager and as an adult she regularly goes to therapy and takes medication (out of pocket, because she is, like so many right now, uninsured).  She is currently out of work because the company that is her main source of income experienced a major slow down of incoming work for her.  She lives alone  and while she values her independence, the isolation, social anxiety, financial stress, past trauma, and day to day responsibilities have all become too much.  Our dear friend is in crisis.

Simply put, after years of suffering from verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse and trying to deal with the repercussions from said abuse, she has reached a breaking point, and she needs our help.  Her therapist has recommended that she attend  Onsite Workshops Living Centered Program, but the $6,000 price tag is daunting.  Her mother is being very unsupportive and is trying to talk her out of going.  As someone who personally benefited from this program when I attended in 2010, I can say that her mother's claims that the price is too high or the center is not up to snuff are completely unfounded.

This program will give Joy a chance to truly explore her past trauma. It will give her the safe space, both physically and emotionally, to express and work through that trauma. It will help her clear the rubble to build a solid foundation on which she can start again.  She has signed up for the June 18-24, and she is going!!

We are trying to raise 6,500 dollars.  This will allow Joy to pay for the program, which for now she has put on a credit card.  It will also cover GoFundMe costs, and allow for her to send her beloved dogs Penny and Zeppelin to a quality dog care facility while she is gone.

She would love to compensate people for their donations, and is offering the following perks:

●If you give $50 to $99, she will be happy to provide you with a half-hour family or other photo session. Check out Serenity Joy Photography on Facebook to see pictures from some of her family photo shoots.

●If you give $100 to $149, she will be happy to provide you with a one-hour family or other photo session or a service she offers through her company, POOF! What Do You Need? Follow the link for more information. Check out Serenity Joy Photography on Facebook to see pictures from some of her family photo shoots.

●If you give $150 or more, she will be happy to provide you with a celebratory or memorial slideshow, a family or other photo session, or a service she offers through her company, POOF! We know this is a stressful time financially for many, and understand that not everyone has the means to contribute with money.  If you can't donate, please consider sharing this campaign!  We would be so grateful!!

Here is a note from Joy in her own words:

"My therapist and psychiatrist have been recommending this program to me for 10+ years, but I have held back because of the cost. I have been struggling financially for years, and thankfully, my dad has helped me out a lot, especially for the past 3 years. However, I have reached a point in my life where I believe this is the right move for me. I have been waking up for the past several months upset that I’m still alive. I am truly struggling through every day. I no longer see a purpose to life or a light at the end of this long, dark tunnel that I’ve lived in most of my life. I need help, and I am finally asking for it.

Before you ask… Yes. I have prayed and begged for mercy from God to alleviate my debilitating depression. I believe that this program may be an answer to my prayer. Also, I have been on prescription medications and in therapy since I was 20. I believe the Onsite Living Centered Program will help me get to the root of my problems and start to move past them, so I can continue living, not just barely surviving, my life.

Thank you so much for reading this and for your consideration and donations. I am forever grateful for all of my wonderful friends! You have helped me more than you know. ❤️"
