Our family is in desperate need of financial assistance for my cousin Samuel, who was diagnosed with a brain cyst at age 14.

Six months ago, in June 2023, our world turned upside down when my cousin Samuel, a bright-eyed 14-year-old, was diagnosed with a brain cyst of nearly 5 cm in diameter.

Living in Ecuador but originally hailing from Venezuela, Samuel and his family are undergoing a heart-wrenching journey, battling not just the complexities of his medical condition as migrants, but also its financial strains.

Following a series of diagnostic procedures, a CT and MRI confirmed the cyst compromising Samuel's midbrain. Doctors prescribe a crucial angiography procedure, a meticulous study of arteries that requires specialized care and general anesthesia.

The public hospital in Quito, where treatment was initially sought, refused treatment due to not having the facilities necessary. The complexity of Samuel's case exceeds their capabilities, leaving the family with no choice but to turn to a private clinic for further treatment. The clinic's cost is prohibitive, and threatens the fragile livelihood of Samuel's family.

Samuel and his family live four hours away from the main hospital, and the doctors in his small town are unable to treat him if his condition turns critical.

We are fighting against time and need to act quickly to start his treatment.

Incessant, sporadic movements, headaches, dizziness, nausea, loss of vision, and seizures are common occurrences, casting a gloom over his once vibrant life. With every day that passes without treatment, there is the threat of damaging effects on his young brain and future.

Our plea is simple but urgent: extend a helping hand to Samuel. The severity of his condition has eclipsed mere physical pain. Together, let us rally behind him, lift the burden of financial despair, and pave the way for the treatment that could restore a semblance of normalcy to his life.

Samuel y su familia viven a cuatro horas de distancia del hospital principal, y los médicos en su pequeño pueblo no saben cómo tratarlo en caso de una emergencia. Estamos luchando contra el tiempo y necesitamos actuar rápidamente para comenzar su tratamiento.

Movimientos incesantes y espasmódicos, dolores de cabeza, mareos, náuseas, pérdida de visión y convulsiones se han convertido en compañeros no deseados, arrojando una sombra sobre su vida que alguna vez fue vibrante. Nuestro mayor temor es que, con cada día que pasa sin tratamiento, puedan haber efectos duraderos en su joven cerebro.

Nuestra súplica es simple pero urgente: extiendan una mano amiga a Samuel. La gravedad de su condición ha eclipsado el simple dolor físico.
