The last 2 years have been horrific for all the family. Starting out as a healthy fit woman.. then a rare condition causing me to go through chemo, have life nearly taken 3 times or more and ending up blind in one eye, with my good eye now threatened. The loss of earnings for both me and my husband. The need for me to get taxis everywhere when I cannot drive, having to work as we cannot survive without my income. Yet all the time the desperate need for treatment that will stop this horrid condition. Every time I am off work I fear the lack of earnings and even for my job. I have always been blessed with a fantastic work team. They are really supportive and I love my job deeply but iys been tough to always keep going through pain and feeling ill. I’ve had to now retire on ill health as my ability to function more than 6 hours a day has gone and so consultants and medics have told me it’s time to stop trying to work.
All we now know is that there is an expert is in Washington. He liased with my team here last year ... but they haven’t sought his advice this year at all. Their referal to Birmingham had held hope for me to have a good treatment plan, but in the end they have awaited 6-7 months and not taken the advice in the end anyway. I am left unwell, dealing with the secondary addisons, thyroid issues and constant pain, and systemic issues due to chronic inflammatory problems that offset Addison’s daily. . The fantastic consultant at Moorfields has retired now also. The Leeds team are trying to get their heads together and agree on a plan that won’t but my life under threat due to illnesses and septicaemias I have already had. I have now emailed Washington and they seem to feel all is not hopeless. However as we all know the health system there is very different and would need perhaps to not only travel there but pay for treatment.
You can imagine my fear of loosing both eyes is devastating. I never feel very well. It’s as if my life has been taken away and I try to simply survive and be the best I can be with all these limitations so that I can have quality of life enough to enjoy my family and keep my job going.
My children are fab, but financially life has been so hard with my lack of earning and Self
Employed hubby has had to run the ship! Our youngest gymnast star is now being asked to compete at international level, which we have to find sponsorship for. It’s easy for the health to come last in busy life.
So everyone has been asking me to set this up. So that they can help us fund travelling about, time off work, treatment, extra opinions, and help with day to day life to remove stress whilst we try and “fix me”.
I don’t feel especially comfortable doing this but my very beautiful and kind nagging friends have pestered me to do so as they say they want to help.
Prayers and friendship to the children and family are just as important. Especially if I’m stuck in hospital! So feel free to have us on your heart as that is enough. Xx
