Help for Sadhana - Jonna Holland

Hello, Friends of Sadhana (Jonna Holland)!

 

Some of Sadhana’s/Jonna's friends are creating a funding campaign to help her and her long-time partner, Alan Jewett, with their ongoing financial burdens resulting from her fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease - it’s what Stephen Hawking had). Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. It attacks cells in the brain and spinal cord that are needed to keep muscles moving, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis. Eventually, the disease can rob a person of the ability to speak, eat, move, and even breathe, but the mind is not affected. Sadhana/Jonna was diagnosed with ALS several months ago. Over the last five months, she has gone from being active and mobile to being partially paralyzed, less able to speak clearly, and unable to independently take care of her of her daily needs.

 

As with most devastating diseases, the expenses related to ALS are overwhelming. These expenses include things such as:

 

• $10,000: First priority – for Sadhana and Alan to move to a one-story home that will allow Sadhana to be mobile.

• $15,000 on-going rent after the move (moving back to Marin from Sacramento - much higher rent, but medical resources and friends are close by).

• $15,000 to cover:

o Medical bills for different types of doctors

o Prescriptions

o Medical devices, such as a custom wheelchair

o Specially designed transportation to accommodate a wheelchair

o Ramps to get in and out of the house

o Special speech-to-text software to aid in continuing to use a computer

o Food

o Aides to help care for Sadhana

 

We would like to try to take some of the burden off Sadhana and Alan, and get some of these expenses covered, so that they can try to focus more on Sadhana’s quality of life so that she can be in the best state of mind possible.

 

Many of us have known and loved Sadhana for decades. Some have met Sadhana in recent years. The one common thread is we ALL are better people for knowing Sadhana. She gives us the gift of connection with the Infinite. Her heart is pure and her love for Truth carries through in every interaction. We have all personally benefitted from knowing Sadhana for 40 years. She has been a female role model throughout all this time. She has taught compassion, Judo, how to laugh, how to be strong, and how to love deeply.
