Our beloved customers, on the Northwest Side and beyond--
We have made the very difficult and painful decision to temporarily cease operations at Perkolator and Thrift & Thrive until further notice. As Bernie Sanders said, “What leadership is about is about going forward when it is not popular." As much as we want to remain open to continue safely serving you all delicious food and coffee, we feel that it is of the utmost importance for the health of our community and employees that we take a leadership position prior to state mandate, and completely close our doors, curbside takeout included, in order to combat the spread of the virus.
For the last month, we have been watching the COVID-19 situation unfold hourly, and have spent may late nights strategizing how to operate safely and responsibly, keep our business solvent, and not hurt our employees and their families. We no longer believe that this it is possible to do all of these things. We do not make this decision lightly. It will have a profound affect on our community, our personal livelihood, and the lives of our employees.
If you would like to help us during this difficult time:
1. Make a donation to our GoFundMe campaign to help our employees. This fund will be equitably distributed to all scheduled employees at both Perkolator and Thrift & Thrive in order to offset the difference between what emergency unemployment compensation might pay, and what they are used to taking home on average every week. Additionally, we are distributing grocery provisions, and keeping a close eye on our team and their families during this time. These are our people.
2. Subscribe to our new Whole Bean Coffee SPECIAL DELIVERY! program. You will get whole bean or ground coffee of your choice, delivered to your porch weekly for only $15/bag/wk. Just email us at [email redacted] for further information. Our goal is 100 families participating, which will help us remain a viable enterprise during this uncertain time. Please consider joining, or purchasing for a friend, neighbor, or relative. Ditch the K-Cups, and break out the Mr. Coffee. It's time to hunker down.
