My mom and dad came out to the Cleveland Clinic on 1/8/19 to prepare for a planned Aortic Valve Replacement on 1/11/19. They were told the expected stay for this surgery was 1 night in ICU then 3-5 days in med/surg then home. Overall, they had planned to be in Cleveland for 10-12 days. But, unfortunately my father has encountered some unanticipated complications and plans to get back home are unknown at this time. My mother has been out in Cleveland with him the entire time and expenses are accruing...hotel stays and food are adding up each day along with the emotional stress she is enduring. Sandy and I have been out to Cleveland as often as we can but with kids and work it has been very challenging.
Both of my parents are retired so their income is limited and they did not plan on staying out in Cleveland this long. Any of you that know my parents know they would do anything for anybody so we are please just asking for any little bit to help support keeping my mother out in Cleveland with my dad. The last thing I want her to have to worry about right now is money.
1/11/19-Aortic Valve surgery completed, required multiple medications post-op due to low blood pressure.
1/13/19- Finally extubated after experiencing challenges with pulmonary edema and vasoplegia.
1/14/19-Converted to Atrial fibrillation, cardioverted 3 times unsuccessfully.
1/15/19-Cardioverted again and was successfully converted to sinus rhythm. Able to come off all blood pressure medications. Developed a large air ileus in his abdomen making breathing difficult, requiring long period of bipap.
1/16-1/21-stayed in ICU to improve oxygenation and transferred to step down unit on 1/21.
1/23-Woke up coughing really hard at 6am and went into cardiac arrest. CPR done for 7 minutes until a pulse was regained, intubated, and transferred to ICU. Started cooling protocol for 24 hours (to preserve brain function).
1/24-Improving....will start re-warming today to see what neuro function is.
