Help for Parents After Ruidoso Fire Left Them With Nothing

Lost Everything in the Ruidoso Fire

My name is Mary (E.K.) and I live in Oklahoma, a couple of states over from New Mexico where my parents just lost their home and everything they had in the devastating Ruidoso fire. My parents officially retired to Ruidoso, New Mexico 10 years ago. They cherished their cabin and all the memories were made there. It was a place filled with so much warmth and happiness, from beautiful, snowy Christmases to hot summer days zooming down the zip line that my dad proudly installed for his grandchildren.

The land provided so many projects to keep my dad busy. Even though he is in his 70’s, that never stopped him from chopping wood, building a treehouse, forging hiking trails, and even starting his own ‘junk yard’ that had so many fun things to explore and admire. And mom put her heart into renovating and decorating. So many holiday meals were prepared in her kitchen, even the disastrous Christmas turkey that was still frozen after HOURS in the oven because we forgot to properly thaw it. So much laughter was had that night as we tried to salvage dinner.

Now, nothing remains but the echoes of memories. The Ruidoso fires took it all away.

Every. Single. Thing.

Nothing remains. They lost it all as they rushed to evacuate.

I am starting this GoFundMe in an effort to help them rebuild their lives. From the very basics of just shoes and socks, clothing, toiletries, etc… Every dollar will be used to get their necessities met and hopefully provide some sense of comfort in this horrific devastation.
