Help for Paralysed kitten Beau (formally known as Bella)

Donation protected
'Beau was found yesterday lying on a dirty pavement in Dubai screaming in pain. This tiny kitten could not move and was completely helpless. He was found by a man who helps local strays and rushed to the emergency vet and immediately put on pain relief and IV fluids.

Unfortunately, the news wasn't great. He is unable to move his limbs below her neck and head. His muscles are wasted and he is extremely dehydrated and weak. We are unsure at the moment if he will regain any further movement.

The vets think he may have spinal cord damage due to a fall from a height. Xrays have shown that he has no broken bones BUT there is abdominal trauma. It is filled with fluid, indicating possible internal organ damage.

I have set up this fundraiser towards Beau's care. His vet bills will be added as received.

Please donate anything you can to try to help save this little baby's life.

Vet notes below:

*EMERGENCY BLACK KITTEN 26-11-24*

*OBJECTIVE*
Treatment Considerations:
- Pain Management: Adequate pain relief is crucial, especially given the severe pain the cat is in. This might involve opioid analgesics and possibly anti-inflammatory drugs
- Supportive Care: Since the cat is dehydrated, IV fluids are necessary to rehydrate and stabilize the cat. This will also help support organ function and circulation.
- Nutritional Support
Spinal Cord Injury Management: If a spinal injury is suspected, further imaging (CT or MRI) could be considered to better assess the extent of any spinal cord damage. Anti-inflammatory medications like corticosteroids might be used cautiously to reduce spinal swelling if this is a consideration.
- Gastrointestinal Care
*ASSESSMENT*
Findings and Observations:
Severe Pain: The cat is experiencing significant pain, indicated by constant meowing and inability to move much beyond the head and neck area.
Neurological Assessment: Normal reflexes in the eyes suggest that the central nervous system (CNS) may not be as severely affected, but the negative needle reflex to the limbs and presence of muscle atrophy suggest possible spinal injury or nerve damage.
Dehydration and Underweight: These are concerning, as they indicate a prolonged period of poor health or stress, likely exacerbated by the trauma.
Lateral Recumbency: The inability to move properly could indicate a spinal injury or severe pain leading to immobility.
X-Ray Findings: No bone fractures were detected, but the twisted tail suggests some soft tissue injury. The fluid accumulation in the abdomen, without blood (aspiration negative for blood), might indicate internal injuries such as internal bleeding or a ruptured organ. The stool and gas in the abdomen also raise concerns for intestinal damage or ileus (intestinal motility issues).
History of a High Fall: This suggests that the injury might be due to a fall from a significant height, leading to spinal injury, possible internal organ trauma, or bruising.
Differential Diagnosis:
Spinal Injury: The inability to move the limbs and the negative needle reflex are highly suggestive of a spinal cord injury, possibly from the fall. If the spinal cord is compressed or damaged, it can lead to paralysis or reduced mobility.
Abdominal Trauma: The fluid in the abdomen (without blood on aspiration) could be indicative of internal injuries like a ruptured bladder, liver, spleen, or intestines. The stool and gas suggest possible gastrointestinal involvement, which could cause further complications.
Neurological Injury: The lack of limb movement and muscle atrophy might suggest some level of nerve damage or neuropathy, potentially from trauma to the spinal cord or nerve roots.
Pain Management and Muscle Atrophy: Given the pain and the muscle atrophy, it's important to manage the cat's pain to prevent worsening of the condition. Muscle atrophy may progress if the cat remains immobile for too long.
