Help for our Neighbour Tim Alger's Family

Donation protected
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to share the unexpected passing of Tim Alger. As some of you may already know, on Monday Tim suffered a heart attack and subsequent head injury while doing what he loved, helping keep the neighbourhood safe and accessible by shovelling sidewalks.

Tim was always willing to help anyone in the neighbourhood with anything they needed. I was hoping as a community that we could come together to help Tim’s family the way he helped so many.

Tim has lived in our neighbourhood since he was 15 years old. He was hard working, caring, funny and incredibly friendly. He started his career at Nelson Steel in his 20s and loved being busy. He worked as much overtime as he could until he was forced into early retirement due to health issues. After that he filled his time helping people keep the neighbourhood safe and beautiful. He spent summers cutting lawns for anyone who would let him and worked through winters shovelling, salting and keeping a lot of our sidewalks safe and accessible even during the worst storms.

You might have seen him riding his bike around the neighbourhood with his grandkids. Maybe he shovelled your driveway, helped you complete a yard project or gave you a warm smile when you needed one. The family is reeling right now, particularly as his great-grandson is due to arrive tomorrow.

Tim helped me realize that there are people who still value the greater good of the whole. He was selfless and would have given you everything he had if it would help. We could definitely use more Tims in the world. The neighbourhood will be forever changed without his hearty laugh and big smile.

Tim’s family needs help with funeral expenses and all of the costs that come with losing a loved one.

Thank you for taking the time to read Tim's story. If you can donate, every little bit will help. If you can't but still want to show your support for Tim and his family, please share this and if you knew him personally please also share your favourite Tim story. I don't think I'll ever have a better next-door neighbour. His loss will be grieved deeply and the neighbourhood will forever have a Tim-shaped hole.

Please help me show Tim's family how much he helped the neighbourhood feel like home, and help support them when they need it most.
