We have kept Brian, Trish, Trevor and Oliver in our thoughts and prayers as Brian's health deteriorated over the winter. Watching Brian's health worsen as he waited for a transplant allows all of us to put a lot of things in perspective and is also a stark reminder how fragile life can be.
On Easter morning, Brian received his transplant. He still has 2 more weeks in the hospital before heading home. But at least he is starting the next chapter of the recovery and healing process. Easter, truly was a blessing for the family as Brian went into surgery at 5:30 AM.
During these past 6 months Trisha added Nurse to the long list of titles she has had to maintain in her life and over 20 years of their marriage. She was by Brian's side at every appointment, hospital stay and during his darkest days at home. Trevor and Oliver were worried about their moms exhaustion-almost as much as their dads illness. But we all know Trish-she was unwavering in her commitment to Brian's health and being the mother we know Trisha to be.
We know this family. We grew up with Trisha or Brian. Maybe we went to college with them. Maybe we have worked with them. Maybe our kids played one of the many sports that Trevor or Oliver played. I'm not sure you're connection to the Haberman's-but I do know we all love them.
I don't feel I need to get into the hardship that a family goes through-when one family member can't work -one is taking as much time away from work as humanly allowed-and not to mention the costs of such extreme hospital bills that go beyond health insurances will go.
I also don't need to remind anyone that Trevor is 180 miles away -pretending everything is ok back home so he can focus on baseball and just being a freshman in college.
Oliver is still just a teenager-playing buckets -looking for his parents in the stands-knowing one of them is always there.
I'm hoping we can be in the stands for this family-cheering, supporting and celebrating small and big victories.
