Help for our canine companions - perros libres
Donation protected
Whilst travelling through mexico and central america I have came across countless cases of our canine companions in such poor conditions it has brought me to tears many times. All over mexico their are stray dogs suffering with starvation, mange, distemper and a general lack of care. Not by all but by many they are seen as pests and a means to deal with the over whelming amount of strays is often to shoot or poison them, I held a dog in my arms whilst he died in pain from poisoning in zipoltè. I got to gautemala lake atitlan and things only got from bad to worse. All over their are dogs suffering with all the above mentioned with the most extreme cases I have witnessed. I felt I had to do something, I heard of a dog shelter in t'zunana that was set up by a beautiful soul called Aron only 9 months ago. After coming on holiday to the lake he also witnessed the devastating condition of many dogs and decided to do something about it. From the kindness of his heart he opened the lakes first ever dog shelter 'perros libres' which has mainly been funded from his own pocket. Aron is currently housing 24 dogs and counting. I went to check out the shelter which is very basic with next to no facilites as Aron had to 'suddenly' move from the original site which was not part of the plan and was dis-placed. They are now on a piece of land with only two basic shelters with minimal facilities and more shelters will need to be erected as time goes on as more dogs are homed. Perroslibres.info is now an offical registered non-profit charity and has recently signed up to work away which is a volunteering platform for travellers. Due to perros libres infancy it is not yet well known and finances and volunteers are coming in but very slowly. I am personally begging you to dig deep and make a donation and share this fundraiser. The money you donate will go towards :-
- Food
- Medication
- Shelters
- Eco toilets and showers
- Staff kitchen and lounge area for volunteers
