Help for New Orleans Folk Artist Charles Gillam
Donation protected
My name is Jessica Hack, and I am raising funds to help my friend and neighbor in Algiers (New Orleans), nationally known folk artist Charles Gillam, creator of the Algiers Folk Art Zone and Blues Museum. Charles has been suffering with complications from recent eye surgeries for glaucoma, which have significantly reduced his ability to see and work. With his eyesight declining for some time, Charles now is unable to sculpt, or carve, or paint, the skills for which he is famous.
Since his surgeries, Charles has been undergoing further treatments daily, hoping to save enough of his sight so that he can continue to do the work that he loves.
Charles and his wife Susan currently need some help paying their monthly bills til his health stabilizes and he can return to work.
Supporting Charles is important to me not only to support a friend, but because his presence, and his generosity, especially in teaching younger members of the community through the years, have helped to inspire the next generation of artists to come.
