Help for my Mom's Cancer treatments and Recovery

Hi my name is Lia, the daughter of Kathy Sanford. I am fundraising for my mom who was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer on November 3, 2020.

My mom is everything to me. She adopted me from China when I was 17 months old. She has raised me with the most support, kindness, and unconditional love. She has helped me through everything to help reach my future goals and to have the best life I can have. I cannot thank her enough for everything she does for me so I am hoping to help her out a little bit to make it easier for her road to recovery.

When she was diagnosed in November, our whole lives had changed. It was very unexpected and thinking what would be the best option of treatments for her and the safest would be. She had been referred to many different oncologist specialist in and out of town in Wisconsin. Surgery was not an option to remove the tumor due to too much of a high risk for her health. The other option was to go through Radiation Treatments everyday.

At that time I knew it would be best to take some time off of work FMLA, to be with her mentally and physically and transporting her to and from appointments. She lives at home with me and I am her only child and caretaker. Over the years her health has progressively gotten worse. I help her with activities of daily living , transportation, and appointment needs. I am a CNA healthcare worker and will continue to take care of her and be there for her.

In December of 2020, she had started her 5 days a week for 5 weeks, 25 External Radiation Treatments.

Then after those were completed she needed to do 4 Brachytherapy Treatments for 4 weeks in Madison, WI. That was 2 1/2 hour drive for us each week including before and after appointments and overnight stays. She had many appointments to go to throughout treatments for pre-op and post-op doctor appointments, lab work, CT, MRI, and PET scans to make sure everything was going smoothly every step of the way.

She had completed her Radiation Treatments in Feb and thought she could start recovering but the last few months starting in April and continuing now she has been in and out of hospitals for Kidney problems, Infections, and Sepsis. The effects of the Radiation has been a lot for her physically and mentally

She has been to the emergency room numerous times because her body kept resisting antibiotics so that meant a few days inpatient in a hospital on IV Antibiotics to figure out which was the best treatment to help make the infection decrease.

In June she needed emergency surgery as the Kidneys were starting to shut down along with a strong infection that led to Sepsis. She has gone through another high risk procedure a couple weeks after the major one and scheduled to have another one under general anesthesia at the end of August to make sure everything is working okay so it doesn't lead to another infection in her body leading to Sepsis very quickly.

With her only having Medicare for insurance, the medical bills are overwhelming. I am hoping this will help ease some of the worry for her. It's my hope this fund will help reduce the amount of medical debt that has piled up quickly.

My mom and I are always there for each other and we are a team. I want to help her the best way I can.
