Help for my Injured Daughter
Donation protected
Invitation to GoFund a rehabilitation aid support for my injured daughter.
My name is Ann-Katrin Berggren.
On August 2nd 2010, my daughter Christina Hedlund suffered a serious brain injury as a result of malpractice during a surgical medical procedure. She did not come out of sedation and very nearly lost her life. As a result her brain suffered from deprivation of oxygen and now she needs 24-7 assistance for all and any of her needs.
Before the accident Christina was a loving, vibrant young woman studying bio-medicine, looking forward to a career and engaged to be married. All this was taken away from her in an instant. Christina has was left unable to communicate or have any control of her body.
For the past 7 years I have worked non-stop to give her the best life possible and to try to find a way to communicate with her. I had just bought a cottage for my own retirement, but had to turn around on my feet, sell the house and get a place where I can provide all the care my daughter needs, and most importantly make sure that whatever rehabilitation is possible must be given to Christina. I've come out of retirement (I will be 70 next year) to support the extremely costly care and everyday necessities for my daughter.
My GoFund project:
Recently we got to try out the 'Toobii', a computer communication device that is controlled by monitoring eye movement, one of the very subtle ways of communication that may be left when speech and nodding are not within reach of my daughter’s abilities. I am convinced that, with daily training and Toobii feedback, Christina might be given a chance to re-learn communicating via Toobii.
Unfortunately the cost of a Toobii and a Toobii rehab assistant is way beyond my means.
Your generous support would help me purchase Toobii and provide Toobii Training for Christina.
My GoFund Goal:
My goal is to find finance for SEK 150.000 (slightly below $ 17 000) for the actual apparatus plus the same amount to be able to hire a Toobii therapist to teach us how to use it and provide therapy in the early period of training, in all $ 34 000.
I thank you for your time and any support will be a true blessing for Christina.
