Hello, my name is Reinaldo. I live in the United Kingdom, and I’m asking for help for my parents, who are going through a very difficult situation in Lisbon, Portugal.
My parents travelled to visit my brother, who works in Lisbon. Since he lives in a company-provided shared flat, they had to stay in an Airbnb during their visit. Shortly after arriving, my dad began to feel unwell. He had severe joint pain, a sore throat, and extreme fatigue. At first, they thought it was just the flu, but his condition kept getting worse.
On August 24, 2025, he had to be taken to the emergency room at Hospital de São José, where he was admitted. Doctors diagnosed him with acute viral hepatitis, possibly caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis), and prescribed complete rest and medical supervision.
Despite following the instructions, his condition did not improve. In the following weeks, he continued to suffer from intense pain, exhaustion, and loss of strength and mobility.
On November 7, 2025, he had to be transferred urgently to Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, where he is currently hospitalized in the Intermediate Care Unit. Doctors now suspect it could be autoimmune hepatitis, and they are conducting further tests to confirm the diagnosis and determine the treatment.
This situation has been very hard for all of us.
My mom is alone in Lisbon, facing not only my dad’s illness but also the language barrier and the high costs of lodging, transport, medicines, and food.
My brother in Lisbon has been doing everything he can to help her, but both of us are reaching out limits, savings have run out, and expenses keep piling up.
From afar, I’m doing my best to support them, and that’s why I’m creating this campaign.
Any help, no matter how small, will allow us to cover basic expenses and continue treatment until my dad recovers.
I thank from the bottom of my heart everyone to take the time to read and who can contribute or share this campaign.
Every bit of help counts, and every gesture of support means the world to our family.
