First of all, we’re beyond thankful for all the prayers and that my dad is still living.

On Saturday, August 24th, my dad and uncle were cutting down a tree together. They had a cable attached to a truck to control the fall, and everything seemed to be going according to plan. But as they were making the final cut, the cable snapped. The tree fell back onto my dad, pinning him to the ground.

The impact was severe, fracturing several vertebrae, ribs, and his pelvis. My uncle tried desperately to move the tree, but it was simply too heavy—EMTs estimated that the section that landed on my dad weighed between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds. My uncle had to use a chainsaw to cut the tree in pieces before he could finally free my dad.

My dad was life-flighted to Grant Hospital in Columbus, where he’s currently receiving treatment. He faces a long road to recovery, including reconstructive surgeries and extensive rehabilitation. He will need to relearn how to walk, and we have no idea when, or if, he’ll be able to return to work.

This has been a traumatic experience for our family, and we’re reaching out for help. The medical bills are already piling up, and there’s still a long journey ahead.
