Help for Motorcycle Accident Victim, Tom Folden

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart to share the story of my mom's sweet husband, Tom, who was recently involved in a devastating motorcycle accident. This accident has left him with extensive injuries that have significantly impacted his quality of life.

Tom became part of our family over 10 years ago. Since then, he has proved to be one of the most steadfast, loyal and kind people that I know. He is a dedicated volunteer at his local church–playing in the church band during services. Tom is also actively involved in the education of his two grandchildren, helping to homeschool them on a weekly basis. His love for his family and his commitment to those around him is unwavering.

As you can imagine, my family and I are heartbroken by this tragic accident. I've created this campaign in order to help Tom get the medical care he needs and deserves. Please consider donating towards his recovery and sharing it with your friends and family. Together, we can make a difference and help Tom on his road to healing.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness during this difficult time.

-Janessa

**A note from Tom’s wife, Ginny Folden**

On Saturday night, April 15th, Tom was coming home from work on his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. He was just over 2 miles away from home. As he headed north on Fairplex toward La Verne, an SUV entered his lane. Tom tried to change lanes to avoid him, but he was ultimately hit and thrown off the bike. Tom, along with his motorcycle, ended up on the opposite side of the 4-lane road.

Tom was rushed to the hospital with significant trauma to his right leg. Once in the ER, it was discovered that his leg had multiple fractures from top to bottom. His toe had to be amputated immediately.

On Sunday morning, April 16th, the trauma doctors started his first surgery. They placed screws in his knee to put the knee and leg in traction. They also did a washout to prevent infection as the knee was completely lacerated.

On Monday, April 17th, doctors performed surgery on the top of the femur to try to stabilize it with plates and screws.

On Tuesday, April 18th, the orthopedic trauma surgeons performed surgery on the complex fractures at the bottom of the femur, the tibia, and the patella, which was in 4 pieces. Doctors also had to find a way to cover the laceration at the amputation site (large toe) and place pins in the remaining broken toes. At the end of the surgery, there was a respiratory Code Blue when Tom stopped breathing. They administered Narcan and were able to revive him.

Tom’s recovery, both physically and mentally, will be extensive. There is no guarantee that Tom can return to the job he loved (and was so good at). Tom is a self-employed Lighting Director who orchestrates large-scale lighting systems for concerts, conventions, fundraisers, and award ceremonies. His work is very physical.

Unfortunately, he is not eligible for state disability as a sole proprietor. At this point, we don’t know if the driver of the SUV that hit him is insured, underinsured, or even a licensed driver. Between medical expenses and the loss of income, this accident is going to set our family back significantly. So many of his friends and family members both near and far have asked how they can help. Based on the overwhelming amount of requests, we decided to set up a go fund me.

On behalf of Tom and his family, thank you in advance for your contributions, your love, your well wishes, and your prayers.
