In Memory of Megan Schultz

This is never a post one wants to make.

Our beautiful girl has passed from this life and into the next. She was called to be whole and healed with our Lord Jesus early this morning.

The efforts of this fundraiser have turned fully to covering funeral expenses and helping the family have time off to grieve.

We sincerely thank everyone for your donations, prayers, and shares so far, and ask for continued prayers, shares, love, and support as Krissy and Doug endure the truly unimaginable.

My niece Megan Schultz was born a fighter and is in the biggest fight of her young life right now.

She came into this world with so many odds against her; her biggest being a Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis. In the last 18 years, Megan has overcome many hospitalizations for her lungs and surgeries for intestinal obstructions, and has thrived in spite of requiring daily regimens of medications, enzymes, and respiratory therapy.

As an honor student, Megan should be preparing for her graduation from Middleburg High School and the next chapter of life to come, but has instead been hospitalized at Baptist-Clay for the last four weeks.

Just as she was seeming to feel better and get stable enough to be transferred to a higher level facility, Megan’s prognosis took a turn for the worst in the last week. She was on a breathing machine until its capacity maxed out and her blood oxygen level became too low, and is now on a ventilator that is maxed out, as well.

Her mom, Krissy, has been by her side around the clock and the family currently needs help covering living expenses while Krissy remains on leave.

Most of all, insurance has currently denied Megan’s medical transfer to Mayo Clinic, which is what her doctors have recommended as her best chance at getting recovered enough to have a transplant surgery—something that is vital for extending the quality of life for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers.

We are waiting to get an out-of-pocket estimate on this cost but it is looking like it could be between 5-10k if the insurance appeal is also denied.

Any level of contribution is greatly needed and appreciated, along with your prayers for Megan’s body to keep fighting against all the complications and for insurance to do what is morally right and owed to a young person that deserves every fighting chance possible.
