Help for Meagan Lowery’s Medical Expenses & Rehab

Donation protected

As most of us know, emergencies have a way of blindsiding us, happening unexpectedly and giving those they happen to no time to prepare. Meagan experienced a traumatic medical emergency on August 18th, and her care is everyone’s top priority. Unfortunately, that care comes with a high cost for both Meagan and her family, who are currently staying in Birmingham near UAB to make sure she’s taken care of and not alone. We wanted to make this go fund me as a way to relieve some of the financial pressure off of them so they can focus on getting Meagan everything she needs to make a full recovery, as well as allow Meagan to focus fully on getting better.

Here is more about Meagan’s situation from her twin sister Morgan:

“For the ones who don’t know, my twin sister, Meagan Lowery, has been diagnosed with an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) which is formed before birth. It is a rare condition where the arteries and veins can rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or spinal cord. In Meagan’s case, bleeding into the brain. Meagan has no previous health issues and was completely unaware. 1 out of 10,000 people have this condition, but most never know.

This is her story:
On Tuesday evening, August 18th, Meagan was making a tik tok video at home with her fiancée, Taylor, when she randomly had a severe headache come on. She became very dizzy and weak and started to vomit. She became unable see straight or speak soon after. Taylor called both his mom and my parents to tell them to come over and my mom called me to run over there. I live right beside my sister, so I was able to get to her before my parents. When I arrived, she was able to hold my hand, while Taylor tried to keep her upright. After my parents arrived, we called 911. While waiting on the ambulance, Meagan was able to grab my hands to place them on her head to show me the area her head was hurting. Taylor’s mom, Teresa, arrived as well and checked her pulse, noticing that it was weak. When the EMTs finally arrived, they took Meagan to Prattville Baptist hospital where she immediately was sedated and placed on a ventilator. Later, She then was air lifted to UAB to be in the best hands possible. After arriving and getting her settled in NICU, They immediately sedated and put her back on a ventilator. After expecting to perform surgery, docters Insisted to wait untill the next day so that they could bring in the top neurosurgeons in AVM since it’s such an uncommon/rare and sensitive surgery. They began to place a tube in the back of her head to drain spinal fluid to help with the pressure building up in her brain as well as running scans on her head and tests on her heart to keep her stable. Surgery was able to get started around 3:30 pm Wednesday and finished up around 7:30 pm. Surgery was successful and she is currently in recovery in NICU. We are unsure how long Meagan will have to stay UAB at this time but know that she will have a long road to recovery. Due to COVID-19, only one person is allowed to be with Meagan in a 24 hr period and we are having to rotate. Family is having to stay in nearby hotels in order to be close to Meagan during this time. This has resulted in many unexpected expenses to ensure that Meagan has received the best care possible and is as comfortable as she can be.

We appreciate the love, support and prayers.”
