My name is Erin Sullivan and I am a daughter-in-law of Martha and Tony Sullivan. I'm writing to you today to express the needs of Martha and Tony based on the very recent tragic loss of their home.
Early in the morning of January 14th, Tony and Martha fled their Merville home as it became engulfed in flames. Within minutes their beloved home was entirely gone. They escaped with their lives and nothing else.
It is impossible to put into writing how difficult it is to lose the site of so many decades’ worth of cherished memories. Over the years countless family gatherings took place there, to celebrate and to mourn. It was a sanctuary for many, housing friends and family in various times of need. What is easier to describe is the loss of the material necessities the home contained and which we hope to help Tony and Martha to replace as they begin their next chapter together.
The Sullivans had been in their self-built home since 1974. They came to the Comox Valley from Pittsburgh, PA, as part of the “back to the land” movement, the home was where Tony and Martha raised their four children and was a beloved haven for their large, extended family as well.
Martha and Tony are currently staying with their children and do not have any immediate needs, but they will in the very near future. In the coming weeks, decisions will be made regarding their living situation and any money raised here will be put towards their housing decision. That decision may be rebuilding, buying a prefab home, or renting a new house.
If you are in a position to help a senior couple who lost everything, literally overnight, please consider making a donation to help Martha and Tony.
