In June of 2020, my cousin Lupita discovered a lump in one of her breast while she was visiting her parents and younger siblings in La Laja, Jalisco, Mexico. While there she had a mammogram and an ultra-sound and they discovered a tumor. She immediately flew back to Los Angeles and went through another mammogram and ultrasound which confirmed she had breast cancer. After long and difficult conversations with her oncologist, she underwent chemotherapy to try and reduce the tumor before undergoing surgery. Six weeks passed and her doctors realized the chemotherapy was not working, as they had hoped, in reducing the size of the tumor and so she had surgery to perform a mastectomy. The hope of Lupita, her family and her doctors was that this was the worst of it and she could go on to live a happy life with her husband and son. However during her last cancer scan, they found evidence of cancer in her lungs. She underwent another round of chemotherapy in May 2021 before heading back to Mexico this summer to visit her parents. Upon her return, she found out her cancer had now spread to her brain and radiation treatments began in August. This past week, it was discovered that this aggressive cancer has spread throughout her whole body. Lupita is trying to hold on to life as we speak, to not leave her beautiful 9 year old son and husband behind. She is a wonderful mother, loving wife and adored member of our family here in the U.S. and in Jalisco, Mexico. We are asking for help to raise funds for her medical expenses, end of life care and so that her husband, Juan Pablo, can take some time off work so that he can be with his son during this impossible time.
