Hello, my name is Raschelle Parker and I am Logan’s Grandma.. Logan James Burke was born Nov. 2, 2021 7lbs 2oz 19.5” to his Mommy Janessa and his Daddy Triston. Triston and Janessa are first time young parents and as any new parents they were so excited, nervous, scared and every other emotion new parents feel bringing a new baby into the world. When Logan was born, he was perfect and appeared perfectly healthy. On Nov. 4, his first check up. The pediatrician alerted mommy and daddy they were nervous about Logan’s head. They said it’s nothing to worry about, “we just need to keep an eye on it”! The next couple appointments, the dr. grew more and more concerned, again assured them it was probably not a big deal and referred them to a Craniofacial specialist. They made an appt. immediately but due to the pandemic and lack of this type of specialist in the Portland metro area, they had to wait almost two months to be seen. In the meantime, Logan has been growing and learning but his head also seemed to be continuing to grow the wrong way. Logan was finally seen On January 19, 2022 and was diagnosed with craniosynostosis.
Logan has since had an eye exam, cat scan, seen by two different surgeons and a pediatric psychologist. The psychologist states he scores below average in a few areas and may need early intervention!
Craniosynostosis is where the babies skull fuses together and turns to bone, not allowing it or the brain to grow as they normally should. This condition if treated early enough can be treated with a less noninvasive minor procedure. Where the baby has to wear a helmet to reshape their skull. Due to the time they had to wait to see the specialist, unfortunately Logan is no longer a candidate for that type of surgery. Logan will now have to under go a very invasive surgery where they cut his skull from ear to ear, rearrange the plates in his skull to allow it and brain to grow properly. This will result in a long hospital stay, an enormous amount of medical bills, loss of work for both Mommy and Daddy, and months of therapy.
I am starting this account to help ease their already worried hearts and minds. Every little bit will help them focus more on getting Logan better and on the road to recovery, and less on worrying about how they are going to pay the endless bills.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!❤️❤️❤️
