Help for little Nolan!

Chelsie Carney is one of our nurses that work at Coeur OBGYN here in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. She and her young family are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Hardworking, kind and warm.

Recently, little 6month old Nolan was experiencing some difficulty with his vision. Started to have severe photophobia (inability to open his eyes in bright light) and then couldn't open his eyes. He was referred to an Ophthalmologist who diagnosed him with Congenital Glaucoma, which will lead to blindness if not treated rapidly. So from the Ophthalmology office, they went immediately to Portland OR for evaluation and scheduling of surgery at the Casey Eye Institute, which is a part of Oregon Health and Science University.

This is a text we got from Chelsie today:

"An exam under anesthesia will be performed tomorrow morning. Depending on what they find and how extensive the damage is will determine which surgery he gets. 1. Trabecualotomy or 2. Ahmed tube + scleral patch graft. There is a good chance with either surgery to stop his vision loss from progressing.

They are getting us settled with a room at the Ronald McDonald housing. We won’t know how long we will be here until we know which surgery will be performed. Doc did say unfortunately this will be a lifelong commitment with lots of appointments and surgeries down the road for Nolan. Very sudden life-changing news, but We are all hanging in there and just doing whatever we need for our boy."

The Carneys do have health insurance, but the deductibles and coinsurance payments will be significant. Along with the fact that no one knows how much time they will have to spend there with little Nolan as he recovers and all of the travelings for subsequent doctors appointments and time off work.
