Hi, my name is Adam and I am helping out Jashinta with her son's medical issues. Her son is 11 years old and suffers from an unknown neurological issue that causes seizures on a regular basis (sometimes 4 times a week). Adheesh (affectionatly called Adhi) does not remember these episodes and often injures himself by biting his inner cheeks or tongue. The episodes are becoming more frequent and unfortuatley the Fiji medical system simply doesn't have the capabilities to help him. They merely give him more meds which make him drowsy and fatigued throughout the day.
We need your help to get Adhi to Australia to see a paedetrician who specialises in neurological issues. Jashinta will fly with Adhi to Australia and possibly spend up to 6 weeks (or more) getting treatments. As he is in Fiji at the moment and the doctor is in Australia, it is impossible for the doctor to advise how long or how much the treatments are going to cost....but its not going to be cheap. Just flights, accommodation, transport, meals and general living are alot more expensive in Australia in Fiji. And because they are not Australians they cannot claim medicare and so all medical treatments and medications will be paid out of their pocket.
This message is from Jashinta:
"As some of you may know, my son started having seizures during his sleep when he was 6 years old. He’s had multiple medical examinations in Fiji since then, and treatment with no real success or a proper diagnosis.
He is still having seizures and recently the situation has taken a turn for the worse, with more regular attacks and a decrease in his health. On top of this his daily life and performance at school have really suffered. This is partly due to the medication he’s been recommended which makes him constantly drowsy and unable to concentrate. For the past few years he has been on higher and higher doses with no improvements to be found. Drawbacks are liver and kidney damage as side affect. I’m worried if the situation doesn’t improve soon, it will affect his whole future.
I’ve been in touch with a paediatric neurologist specialist in Queensland Paediatric Specialist in Australia who has agreed to review and examine him. This will be a costly process for me and to be honest I do not know how much it would be. I am asking for any help you’re willing to provide and are grateful for anything."
Many of you know Jashinta through your dealings with her at the marina. She is an amazing person who always has a smile on her face, who greets everyone with so much enthusiasm, who juggles her tasks like no one can and is just an all-round lovely girl. Who would have known that her and her son have such a difficult home life.
All funds raised are going directly to Jashinta. I will be collecting the funds and then giving them to her when she gets to Australia. Vuda Marina (where she works as the Assistant Marina Manager for those that don't know) will also be assisting financially especially to make up any shortfalls.
Please help us get proper treatment for little Adhi.
Big Hugs!
Adam (on behalf of Jashinta)
