March 4th Liliana was diagnosed with a life threatening heart tumor. So rare, there are only a handful of cases on record…with no known cause. The news came as a MASSIVE SHOCK to the family. Hawaii drs not knowing how to handle the situation, sent us almost immediately to Stanford Medical Center in California for treatment. The prognosis was grim.. we were told it was most likely an inoperable cancer and she would need a heart transplant. After 5 biopsies and 2 open heart surgeries later, they now believe they have the situation somewhat under control. Thank God… the tumor turned out to be benign… a myocardial hamartoma. Her team of incredible surgeons were able to resect part of the mass, repair a valve, replace another, and install a (hopefully temporary) pacemaker. Kept her heart intact!! However, she’s still in the ICU.... and still many weeks of recovery before we’re able to return home. She’ll need ongoing care moving forward… but hopefully the worst is behind her. She has lost so much time from work and school, all the while expenses have been piling up. Liliana has been beyond brave, strong, and inspiring throughout this entire process.. never giving up hope!! If you’re in anyway able to help with support, it would really help to relieve some of her stress. Huge THANK YOU!! to everyone for the continued outpouring of love and prayers!!
