Help Save Kumudu

Dr. Kumudu Wickramasinghe, a 38 year old leukemia patient, needs over $50,000 USD for his survival. An anesthesiologist from Colombo, Sri Lanka, Kumudu has valiantly fought Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) for over one year. He has braved numerous complications and extensive rounds of chemotherapy. Because Sri Lanka does not have transplant facilities, Kumudu has had to travel to India, away from his family. He is now isolated at a hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, being resuscitated for life-threatening consequences of chemotherapy as he prepares for a stem cell transplant to take place mid-February 2019. Time is running out. Unfortunately, so are his savings, which have been totally depleted by chemotherapy, hospital stays and the cost of the stem cell transplant.
Prior to his diagnosis, Kumudu excelled in his medical practice, treating thousands of trauma patients. He was known as a dedicated doctor for the poor, having assisted in the development of a new hospital facility for rural patients in Nuwaraeliya. A graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Colombo, and an alumnus of Royal College, Kumudu earned praise from local communities and the Sri Lankan media for his philanthropy. He has led a noble life, both as a doctor and a parent.
Kumudu's wife, Nirosha Wijeratne, is also a doctor. She has supported him throughout his illness while also caring for their two daughters, Tavishi and Seyara. Both children are under 3 years old and they have missed seeing their father a lot this past year. They are being looked after by a maid now since Nirosha’s mother, who was helping raise the children, recently fell and fractured her hip. To make matters worse, Kumudu’s mother is being treated for breast cancer that has spread to her bones.
Kumudu has strenuously struggled to pay $61,000 towards the stem cell transplant cost. However, in total he needs well over $100,000 to cover his current chemotherapy treatment and the stem cell procedure that will give him a chance at a new lease on life.

UPDATE: 2/15/19
Dr. Kumudu is still in isolation at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, being treated for complications of chemotherapy induced immunosuppression resulting in fungal infection of his liver and lungs. He also has a serious colon infection called Typhilitis. Due to these complications, his stem cell transplant, originally scheduled for Feb. 14th, 2019, has been postponed by 5 weeks. Unfortunately, this means that the costs of his hospital treatment have further escalated.
Dr. Kumudu is still enduring his illness with courage and faith, hoping for an eventual recovery. His wife Nirosha is with him. While Kumudu and his family are undergoing this daunting challenge, they have expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the financial support, which has lifted their spirits.
UPDATE: 3/28/19
Dr. Kumudu and his family are hoping he will be approved for a transplant in about 2 weeks time. He is still recovering from fungal infections in the lung and liver, while preparing to undergo mild chemotherapy prior to the transplant. The full donations received on this site as of 3/28/19 ($2,526) have been wire transferred to Kumudu and Nirosha's joint bank account. The Wickramasinghe family are grateful for all the support and prayers sent from people all over the world.
