Help for Kharkiv refugees

Donation protected
Dear friends, colleagues, friends of friends, and colleagues of colleagues,

I am asking for financial support toward very concrete causes among millions of those affected by the war in Ukraine. As the ancient book says, “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”

I was born and raised in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Now, most people know exactly where that is, as the city has made international news due to being under constant attack since day one of this senseless, incomprehensible war. I live in the US, and most of my family of origin - is in Germany. They are doing all they can to help Ukrainian refugees and those still in Ukraine. I hope that my American community and I can also help a few, at least financially.

UPDATE: Dear kind souls,
Though the war in Ukraine has all but disappeared from the front pages of our news, unfortunately, the human suffering there continues, and the heartbreaking stories keep multiplying. Hence, I am reaching out for more financial support.
Tatiana and Eugene Syrkin have been my parents' closest friends since their youth. They were best men/maids of honor at each other's weddings and spent all holidays and milestones together. They were like an aunt and an uncle to me when I was growing up in Kharkiv. My family emigrated, but they stayed there, in Kharkiv, up until March 2022. They were still working in their mid-to-late 70s, though health problems had been slowing them down. When the war started, like many other older folks, they were reluctant to flee to nowhere. But eventfully, they had to leave as their apartment was damaged by shelling. They stayed with relatives in western Ukraine for a bit and were hoping to return home. However, with Kharkiv under continued assault, that has not been an option. Then they considered going to Europe, but Eugene had to have an emergency heart surgery, for which they relocated to Kyiv. Then Tatiana, while carrying for him, also had a series of setbacks with two eye surgeries and other medical treatments. All of that, cardiac rehab, and plus renting a place to stay in Kyiv exhausted their saving and - after a lifetime of successful careers -they are left with nothing but the clothes on their back, literally speaking. We hope to have them move to Germany, but they are not yet in a condition to travel and need money to make the transit possible, given how frail they are. My family has been sending them some money, but medical expenses are mounting (nothing is done for credit there, you have to pay cash), morale is fading, and they are pretty desperate. All of it is just too heartbreaking. Please consider giving what you are able to support this struggling family.

The picture I chose was of the train station in Kharkiv. Words cannot describe ...

Please consider giving what you can - if a lot of people give a little each, it will significantly help a few in need.

With much gratitude,
Anna
