One week ago, I got some of the worst news I have received in several years. My best friend and best dog, Khaleesi, has been diagnosed with a type of cancer called soft tissue Sarcoma.
Some backstory: I have visited the vet many times over the past year, raising concern about a slow growing mass on her side. Each time I drew attention to it during a visit and questioned about testing just in case, they would check it out and do blood work, which would always come back great. Each time, the vet came to the conclusion that they were “sure it was a harmless lipoma” (fatty deposits some dogs can get with age), and that there was “absolutely no need for any additional testing”, as they were very firm in trusting their diagnosis.
The lump got large enough that it came time to remove it, since it has been affecting her movement and adding extra weight on her joints. The surgery was cleared and we were going to move forward with it. We were at one of her last appointments before the surgery just a few weeks out and everything unexpectedly changed. They finally did a cell test - which they have to do before operating. They have now informed me they found it is actually a malignant soft tissue sarcoma. They told me that it's actually inoperable with the change in diagnosis. It's been a week and I still feel like I'm in shock. This is coming just a couple years after I lost someone very dear to me to cancer.
If you are able to donate towards her care, please do. Anything at all helps. She is precious to everyone that knows her. Any funds gathered will go towards her appointments, medication, treatment, and continuing to take the best care of her I can. Thank you from both of us.
