Help for Kent Neuer and Family

Donation protected
We are creating this GoFundMe to help with medical and other expenses for our son, Kent, who was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO following an accident on his bicycle on Saturday, 9/24/2022. Kent was struck by a truck while riding his bike in our neighborhood when he pulled out in front of the truck. (He had just received the new bike as an 8th birthday present the day before). He has already had two surgeries with possibly more to come. Financial help is much appreciated. Most of all though, we need prayers.

I (Garrett) was working when I got a call from my wife, Rachel, saying that Kent had been hurt and to come to our street immediately. I raced back as quickly as I could to find Kent bleeding in the street; as a father, I cannot describe the feelings that I had at that moment. The first thought that came to my head was to remind myself that I have given Kent to Our Lady and that God is Good.

(A little back story: Kent had been asking to go to confession and Mass for a few days but we hadn't had time to make it. Rachel was planning to take him that morning because I would be working. I had just returned from my work site to do some paperwork when Kent came out of the garage dressed and ready for Mass. Rachel had accidentally overslept so I said "let's go.")

The accident took place a few hours after I dropped off Kent back home. As I got into the ambulance with Kent, he was screaming in pain and yelling out, "I want Jesus, I want God" and I replied that they were right there with us and that Our Lady is with us. I whispered to him and said to remember what Our Lord went through and that he will be okay, which seemed to give him some relief. His brown scapular has been on him the whole time, as the staff knows it is never to be removed, and the amazing doctors at Children’s Mercy have been very respectful of this. The E.R. doctors even went so far as to attach a note to the scapular stating it is not to be removed, and Kent was able to wear it into surgery.

Kent sustained the following injuries: a shattered femur (broken in 5 or more spots); fractured tibia; broken mandible and nose; lacerated spleen; lacerations, road rash, and bruising to his face, arms, and legs; and hematomas on his lungs and intestines. The surgery went well for his face and leg but he then became more and more tachycardic and his O2 stats needed to be kept stable with oxygen. On 9/25, the doctor informed us that Kent's hemoglobin was low and that he needed a blood transfusion, which he received. The doctor is worried that there may be internal bleeding from his intestines but we will know more after the transfusion.

Please continue to keep praying for Kent, especially the Rosary. Thank you all again for everything.

**We want to add that the driver was not at fault; this was completely an accident. Please also keep the driver in your prayers, as he knows Kent and feels terrible.**
