Joy is a 19 year old girl from Tulare,CA. She was diagnosed with Leukemia ALL in 2010 at the age of 6 and a half years old. Unfortunately since then Joy has relapsed 3 times with Leukemia. She had a bone marrow transplant in 2015 and in 2022 was about to be 7 years cancer free. However in April 2022 she was diagnosed with a new cancer. This time a squamous cell carcinoma on the tongue. The cancer spread to her neck nodes. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor and some neck nodes. After 1 successful surgery they were able to remove the tumor on her tongue and after 3 they were able to reconstruct part of her tongue. Because of the size of her tumor, she now depends on a feeding tube and she lacks the ability to speak clearly. After all these surgeries, Joy began her journey with chemo and radiation once again. She underwent radiation treatment every single day for 7 weeks plus chemo once a week for 7 weeks. Some time during this treatment, the cancer came back and was declared terminally ill. Joy is currently in the hospital fighting for her life. Unfortunately her mother passed away in 2021 and since then has been alone with her 21 year old sister Daniela. Since the passing of their mom, Daniela has been Joy’s full time caregiver taking her back and forth to City of Hope in Duarte,CA and Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera,CA.
