Help for Josh Goerke’s medical expenses

On September 1st, 2021 Josh underwent his second brain surgery within two years. His original battle began back 2018. Josh started experiencing disabling migraines and vision loss. After almost a year of visiting multiple doctors and specialists, and having several CT scans and MRI’s the neurologist diagnosed Josh with a brain tumor. The brain tumor was pressing on his optic nerve and as a result was causing his loss of vision and migraines.
He underwent his first craniotomy May 31, 2019.
Josh’s surgery was difficult as the tumor was also located next to his pituitary gland. His surgeon was successful at removing almost all of the tumor but a small portion remained. Josh’s healing and recovery were long but he slowly regained his vision, and his migraines seized. Josh did experience side effects from his surgery. He has to take medications for excessive thirst. His sense of smell and taste have become non existent. The medical bills from his year long search for answers and his 1st craniotomy were overwhelming and depleted their family savings. The family is still dealing expenses from the first surgery.

March of this year, Josh started experiencing similar symptoms. His loss of vision returned as did the multiple doctor visit, CT and MRI scans. This time making several trips to The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. In August, after multiple tests and radiograph images his neurologist found that the remaining portion of his tumor was 3cm and because of the location of the tumor being so close to his pituitary gland it was signaling his orbital bone to grow. The tumor itself was not growing but without a second craniotomy his bone would continue to grow and he would go completely blind in one eye. His surgeon wanted him to schedule immediately.
His second brain surgery performed was a orbital craniotomy. The surgeon guaranteed the bone would no longer grow and that Josh’s vision would take time to get return but would improve significantly.

The medical expenses from his second surgery is astronomical and his insurance company is denying claims, or paying very little towards his procedure. Just one of their insurance EOB’s had his patient responsibility $71,000!

Anyone who knows Josh or Jessica knows they are the first to lend a helping hand. They truly are amazing people who are going through a difficult time financially. I’d like to ask anyone who is able to help their family to please consider donating towards Josh’s medical expenses. Anything will be greatly appreciated. “We rise by helping others” let’s help the Goerke Family.

Thank you! Melissa and Mitch Goerke
