Help for Jose Castenada's Family

I met Jose Luis three years ago when we started our first large apartment renovation in Phoenix.  He was a shy and gentle man happy to do any work we needed, and trust me, we needed his help more than he knew. The building was in shambles and we undertook a huge project with the help of Jose, he did welding, drywall, cleaning, and countless repairs. He quickly became the most valuable team member. Jose was someone who would help me with anything at any time of the day and so I made sure he had work.  Jose helped me with countless projects over the past few years, always loyal, hardworking and kind. His wife Rosa was always by his side assisting him too. One example of how thoughtful he was, if he had a maintenance call at a single woman's apartment, he would bring his wife to accompany him just so the resident felt comfortable.

A kind and gentle man, Jose immigrated from Mexico 22 years ago in search of the American dream. He met his wife Rosa at a disco and they were always together. Shortly after they met, Jose broke up a fight and was stabbed 13 times - he was in a coma for three weeks and survived! After surviving, Jose built a life with Rosa worked hard for his family.  After 20+ years together they recently bought a house in Phoenix with their kids and grandkids. Jose was working towards finalizing his citizenship. Jose worked as a contractor for me but also for many others; he was a welder, a handyman and landscaper.  When Covid hit, Jose was the first contractor I knew who put on a mask. Many contractors still don't want to wear a mask but this was not Jose, he was careful and mindful. Rosa tells me she gave him a new mask, hand sanitizer and gloves every day before work. However somehow he still came down with Covid-19 a few days before Thanksgiving; food didn't taste good and he was tired. At first he was on Oxygen at home, but he couldn't breathe and was hospitalized, he suffered three heart attacks at the hand of the virus and died within 3 weeks of falling ill at 55 years old.

Jose will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and coworkers. He leaves behind his wife, daughters, step son and grandkids. His life was cut short by Covid. The funds will go to Rosa to pay for his small Covid safe funeral and to help her because she is disabled and relied on Jose for so much support.
