Update 07/07/2021
We now know Jethro will need surgery on 07/19. It's a very scary and risky procedure but based on all the information we've received, it seems like the best option for our boy. Without complications, the surgery is estimated to be $7,000-$8,400, plus the cost of pre-treatment medications which will increase the success rate and safety of the anesthesia, etc. Fingers crossed that our little guy makes it, we're very worried but trying to be optimistic. Thank you all for your support so far ❤
Our beloved boy, Jethro has been diagnosed with an adrenal tumor. We would do anything to give Jethro the best possible care and quality of life, and we're told for him the only way forward would be surgery. Time is of the essence and treatment needs to be assessed and provided as soon as possible to give Jethro the best chance!

How We Got There
Just a day ago, we had to take Jethro to a local emergency animal hospital. Early in the morning he was breathing very heavily and was extremely lethargic, not being tempted by his leash for a walk or anything. We immediately brought him in during what was a rollercoaster of a day which started with a diagnosis of diabetes and ended with the realization that it was actually a tumor on his adrenal gland. The doctor who treated Jethro, Dr. Alexandra Pasaturo was wonderful and did all she could to help our boy; however now we face the waiting game of the surgery consult on July 7th. Upon discharge our bill for the emergency vet is $2,200, on 07/07 we know there is a $220 charge for the consultation and if they tell us to move forward with the surgery we could be looking at $2,500-$10,000 cost as soon as that day. The surgery is risky, but it is equally risky if not more so to leave the tumor untreated. We are scared but determined to get our boy through the other side of this with your help!

About Jethro
My husband Tim and I adopted Jethro when he was a mere 11 weeks old from a shelter called the North Shore Animal League . The night we brought our boy home it poured rain, and ever since he's loved going for walks in the rain (even dragging us out for a stroll during Hurricanes Sandy and Irene). This is the day we brought our boy home:

Jethro loves to go for hikes and nature walks all over, and we try to bring him to as many beautiful spots and trails as we can!

He is also a big fan of meal time, letting us know in no uncertain terms when he's ready for dinner:

Snow days are another favorite of Jethro, he loves to smell and bite the snow and scoot around on his side through it, he's such a lovable goof-ball!

Speaking of "goof-ball", he's not a big fan of playing with toys, but when he does:

Jethro isn't just a dog, he's our adopted son. He is family. We need him as much as he needs us, and to know he is going through such a rough and dangerous time is really breaking our hearts. We want what is best for him to be able to have some more good years and adventures ahead!
In Summary
We love Jethro more than anything, and would do anything for him, but this is where we need help. Unfortunately, emergency home renovation costs cleaned out our savings earlier this year, and where Tim and I do all we can to try to bring in extra money, opportunities have been scarce. Due to the severity and suddenness of these events and the associated costs, we are very humbly coming to this platform to ask all of you for help.
Any contribution small or large is greatly appreciated, we know times are tough for everyone! We will look to adjust the goal amount once we have more answers as to the road forward, in case it is not the highest end of the estimated range.
As an alternative to donations, if there are any art collectors reading this, please feel free to visit my Etsy shop and make a contribution by either purchasing a print or requesting a commission!
All contributed funds will go directly to Jethro's treatment and care. Unfortunately, despite having pet insurance, none of this has been covered so far. Tim, Jethro, and I cannot express our gratitude enough to any and all who are able to make a contribution.
Thank you for your love and support, there are no words to capture just what it means to us.
