Saving Owen!!

Saving Owen…an autistic son of an educator and a police officer that needs help fighting for his life!


Hi Everyone! Most of you who are reading this know the Slaton Family! Whether you know them from childhood, their days at Georgia State University, from their hometown of Newnan, or if you haven’t had the pleasure of knowing them…they are some of the best people you will ever meet!  Jessica is a former nurse turned educator and is currently an Assistant Principal at Evans Middle School in Newnan. Donnie is a Police Officer with the City of Atlanta who has also been deployed on 2 tours to Afghanistan as a civilian police advisor for the Marines. They have two precious sons, Tripp (15) who is a sophomore at Newnan High School and Owen (13) who is currently fighting for his life against a disease that is attacking his mind and body.  

This sweet family needs our help! Owen has some very specific medical needs and they need our love, prayers and financial support in order to move forward with his treatment.  The care he needs is NOT covered by insurance and is very expensive. After years of exhausting the insurance approved “conventional” methods Owen, Jessica and Donnie were gifted a consultation with Dr. Peter Scire, founder of Scire Integrative Health Center and collaborator with the founders of Brain Balance.  Dr. Scire is excited to begin a new kind of treatment with Owen so that he will get the help he so desperately needs.  


Owen suffers from autism, OCD, severe anxiety, autoimmune deficiency, depression, learning disabilities, severe eczema and side effects from the multiple extreme medications that he has been prescribed from other doctors. His autoimmune system is attacking his mind and body to the extreme that he has lesions from his eczema that constantly itch all day everyday. The side effects from his medicine have contributed to his weight gain, which has affected his inability to get around like a normal 13 year old and could also cause diabetes and cardiac problems. His anxiety has debilitated him from attending school, going out of the house for more than 1 to 2 hours at a time, being away from him family, and many other everyday life functions. His depression is overwhelming and he consistently beats himself up when he realizes he can’t do things that he wants to do and/or things that he used to do.


Dr. Scire has put him on a strict diet to help stop his body from attacking itself. Once his autoimmune system is more under control then he can begin the supplements and brain stimulation program that will start his treatment. Jessica and Donnie have exhausted all of their financial resources and are living paycheck to paycheck. Donnie has used all of his leave time from work and so when he does have to stay home with Owen he does not get paid. Both Jessica and Donnie have missed numerous days of work to care for their son. They are the type of people that would never ask for help,  but we have stepped in on their behalf because it is now to the point where if Owen does not get the help that he needs his life is in danger. The cost of the testing, treatment, supplements, diet specific groceries on top of their daily expenses for a family of 4 are too much for them right now, so this is where we can all show our support and donate as much as we can…every dollar adds up!

Owen, Tripp, Jessica and Donnie deserve a glimpse of normalcy and we are very hopeful that through this treatment and all their friends and family rallying behind them that they will have a chance of seeing it soon!!!
