On july 23rd my friend's husband, Jehoshaphat James, was involved in a single car accident. It was raining that night and while making a turn he overcorrected, hydroplaned and hit a pole. He was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital's trauma center with multiple fractures and spinal cord swelling. While in trauma he has been placed on life support. On july 26th Jehoshaphat underwent spinal surgery to stabilize his neck and he was able to breathe assisted with a ventilator. He is immobile at the present time, but does feel slight pressure on his right arm. He has also been given a tracheostomy and g-tube for nutrition.
His wife, Vanessa, has taken time off of work to take care of her husband. As long as he is unable to speak she will be his voice. While they have adequate living arrangements right now, they will need to move into a place that is wheelchair accessible upon discharge. She is currently looking for a home without stairs and that will be wheelchair accessible. She will eventually have to purchase a vehicle large enough to also transport a wheelchair and their young kids.
She feels her family is extremely blessed that he survived this accident and she thanks God everyday that he did. We know this is going to be a long road but with much prayer we know God has a plan. Whatever you decide to give will be greatly appreciated. It will help them take care of their baby, 2 young daughters living at home and Vanessa's bonus daughter's up in Georgia while he is out of work. It will also help her put a down payment on a new place that is handicap accessible as well as a handicap accessible van.
Vanessa asks if you will please leave your personal prayer request so her family and I can pray for you as well, as she understands that her family is not the only one going through rough times right now. Let's keep each other lifted. Thank you and God bless.
