Hi, my name is Laura Burgess and I'm fundraising on behalf of Jana Abdel Hadi, a 3 year old girl who has Down's Syndrome. I saw a video of Jana which broke my heart and I realised that I had to do everything in my power to help her.

Jana was injured in the bombing of her home in Al-Bureij camp where all her family members were killed except her brother, Abdullah, who was taken to the hospital with devastating injuries. Her brother, Fadi, her sister Nisreen, and her parents were all martyred and are still under the rubble.

Luckily for Jana, her Aunt Sofya was able to reach her and bring her to her home in Khan Yunis. Her Aunt has twin daughters who are 18 months old, and she now cares for Jana. She suddenly has triplets! Jana's brother Abdullah is still in Al-Aqsa hospital recovering but was again traumatised when he was caught in the bombing of the hospital that burned Sha'ban and his mother alive.

I was able to make contact with Sofya through the journalist who took the video in Al-Aqsa hospital. We have been messaging via whatsapp and I video called to confirm that Sofya is real, and that she has Jana with her. It was incredible to meet them both via video call, although Jana wasn't impressed because she had just woken up from a nap

Nowhere in Gaza is safe, and the little supplies that they have are now wildly expensive. I want to raise funds to ensure that Jana has everything she needs to help her recover from the trauma of being bombed and becoming an orphan, and to survive this devastating genocide.

Anyone who has a friend or family member with Down's syndrome knows that it is a syndrome of kindness and love. Jana is guilty of nothing but being born in Palestine, and we want her to have everything she needs - food, clothes, toiletries, but also the toys and books she will need to learn.

Her Aunt is determined to help Jana recover and to develop her abilities. She has a bachelors degree in education and is studying general nursing so she is a wonderful caregiver for Jana.

I will be withdrawing funds periodically and sending them to Sofya's account in Gaza so that she has the money to buy whatever she needs for Jana, Abdullah and the rest of her family. All transactions will be posted online and available to view in a Google sheet.

About Sofya - Sofya gave birth a few months before the bombing started, she has lost her brother (Jana's father), her niece and nephew, and many other family members have been martyred. She is staying in Khan Yunis with her husband and twin daughters, now with Jana and Abdullah when he is able to leave the hospital.

Notes about me - I am Laura Burgess, married to David with Bella (9) and Bobby (7). My daughter Bella has Down's syndrome, and when I saw Jana on that hospital floor I knew I had to find her. The entire genocide has broken me daily, but Jana leapt out of my phone and into my heart immediately. I will do anything and everything I can to help this little girl and I urge the DS community across the world to get involved and help.
