Help for Imani

On Thursday, October 11, 2018, 15-year-old Imani Rogers-McCants was crossing the street when a car sped around the curb, striking Imani with full force. Imani was thrust into the windshield and hurled 60+ feet into the air.  The impact of the collision with both the car and the ground caused severe trauma to Imani's body.  The driver of the car was uninsured,  was not the owner of the car, and was ultimately not charged.   Immediately after the crash, she was airlifted from McCombs, MS to the Baston Children's Hospital PICU in Jackson, MS.  She was diagnosed with severe brain trauma with bleeding in the brain in 2 areas, a bruised lung, a fractured arm, and a fractured pelvis.  The damage to her brain was so severe that medical staff put her on a ventilator and induced a coma and drilled a hole into her skull to reduce swelling.   While she is still unconscious, the medical staff have started physical therapy on her limbs, and doctors are slowly reducing her medication before trying to wake her from her coma.   As of  October 15, the EKG shows that the two areas of brain damage still have yet to show activity.  Her mother, Ingrid Rogers, has been at the hospital since the 11th, patiently waiting for Imani to heal and respond.   At this time, Ingrid is unable to work, and Medicaid has not kicked in.   We are unsure of how much help Medicaid is going to be able to provide when it does kick in.  We are asking for your help in distributing Imani's story and raising funds to help our family through this difficult time.
