Latest Update from Hollie's Sister (7/7)
As of now, we believe Hollie will be going to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh for her rehabilitation. Yesterday was extraordinarily stressful for the family due to multiple facilities stating they are unable to handle Hollie's medical needs, but everyone is very confident that she is going to be in the best facility for her situation.
Hollie is struggling a bit with being very homesick and missing her children. They are finally getting to visit their mother today for the first time since she's been hospitalized. With the trauma to the brain, she has been very emotional and mainly feeling sad.
She is slowly recovering and has been walking short distances with assistance.
Her communication abilities are not the same as they were, but they are greatly improving with each day. When we first texted her it was only a one-word answer, but now she responds with 3-4 words and she is using emojis. Her responses are also faster and she is remembering things like paying her electric bill.
She will be on IV antibiotics for another 4 1/2 weeks.
She will then return to Allegheny General Hospital in about three months and they will replace the skull bone that they removed during her brain surgery. She will have to wear a helmet to protect herself until they do the surgery.
6/25 Update
As of last night, 6/25, Hollie was taken off the ventilator and she is doing wonderfully without it. She is still on some oxygen.
Hollie is communicating well with her Mom, Matt and the interpreter.
She finally had an MRI and it did not show anything alarming. It does show inflammation where they operated.
They are moving her out of Neuro ICU.
They are going to start working on getting her out of bed and eating again. Basically all the muscles that have not been used during the that time she's been sedated need to be rehabilitated.
Thank you everyone for your support. This is the start of a long healing process and they still need your support to make sure that the kids and Hollie get everything that they need.
Thank you again! ❤️
Having a baby is often one of the most wonderful times in a person's life and for Matt and Hollie they could not have been more excited to add another little girl to their family.
Hollie delivered a beautiful and healthy baby girl on June 8, 2023, but their joy was overshadowed by the complications that Hollie developed a few days after giving birth.
Hollie was only home for a little over a day before having to go back to the hospital due to abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with sepsis and was admitted to the hospital. Since then she has had a total hysterectomy, an infection in her gall bladder and brain surgery due to an infection on the left side of her brain. She is holding on and fighting with everything she has.
I, Matt's sister, am hoping to raise funds to help ease the burden of their monthly bills and to handle any future medical expenses that may arise.
I am truly grateful for any financial support we can collect for Hollie and Matt and hope we can get her home to be with her kids and newborn baby soon.
