Herb Otto's Home Healthcare Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Georgia King, and I'm raising money to help care for my Dad, Herb Otto. He taught Philosophy at Plymouth State University, worked with the Gideons International, helped establish Glory Christian Academy of Kenya, and participated in other church and missions activities. Maybe you're connected through one of his many daughters... I'm the fifth of seven!
This past May and June, at age 91, he survived a fierce battle with COVID and pneumonia, resulting in a new way of life for him and my Mom, Kit Otto.
He is now physically and mentally unable to care for himself independently. He also lost his ability to safely swallow food and fluids, and now has a feeding tube. He didn't qualify for rehab in skilled nursing facilities, and was instead sent home on June 17th.
With the help of family, friends, and private caregivers, we have established a consistent schedule. Herb has shown some physical improvement, continues to exercise his cognitive capabilities, and enjoys summer afternoons out on the porch with visitors. He requires 24-7 care, including moments when two or three people are necessary at once. Insurance covers short visits from specialized nurses, but assistance with everyday care is an out-of-pocket cost.
Funds raised through this page will primarily be used to build a wheelchair ramp. Anything beyond the ramp costs will be used to continue paying the hourly wages of hired caregivers.
If you're not able to donate, you can still help by sharing this page, and by praying for Herb, Kit, and the rest of our family during this challenging chapter of our lives.
