Help for Henry: Battling a Rare Brain Infection

Henry Pernada is a dear friend who has had some major health complications over the past few months and is in need of prayer and support.

Henry is a kind-hearted, joyful, and hardworking man. He is a wonderful husband to his wife, Brittany, and loving father to his twin girls, Ry and Livi. Henry has impacted many lives with his kindness, faith, positivity, smile, and songs. He is usually the one to go out of his way to care for others. At this time, it is Henry who needs our help.

Henry had been feeling under the weather for a few months, but the doctors could find nothing wrong with him. On Thanksgiving morning 2024, he had multiple seizures and was rushed to the hospital. After many tests, it was finally discovered that he has a fungal infection in his brain. Fungal meningitis is a rare and life-threatening infection. Henry stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks for intensive IV treatment and slowly started to feel a bit better. Although the infection was still present, the doctors felt he was well enough to transition into home treatment, and he was discharged.

The family was able to spend the holidays together, but on January 2nd, Henry had multiple small strokes and was rushed back to the hospital. This time, the recovery process has been much more difficult, and he is facing many more obstacles. He can walk but still needs to recover speech, fine motor skills and many cognitive skills. After running countless tests the doctors have determined the fungal infection multiplied extensively after discharge and is the cause of the strokes. The family is looking forward to moving him to the rehab unit as soon as he is approved.

First, Henry needs our prayers for healing in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.

Second, Henry and his family need financial support at this time. Though he qualifies for short-term disability, it is only a portion of what is needed for their monthly bills, childcare, and high insurance deductibles for both 2024 and 2025. In addition to the bills, there are some potential treatments that could greatly benefit Henry's recovery but are expensive and have not been approved by his insurance.

Those of you who know the Pernadas are aware that asking for help is not normal for them. But any help received would be greatly appreciated as they go through this difficult time.
