Support for James & Sally Heffner Family

Donation protected
After 6 and half years of trying to start a family, Sally and James finally welcomed twin babies, Morgan James and Challen Renae, on September 16th. Despite making it to 37 weeks and both babies being born a reasonably well size for twins, baby Morgan has faced several complications and is currently fighting for his life in the Cardiovascular ICU at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Morgan was diagnosed during early  pregnancy with Down Syndrome. Common conditions associated with Down Syndrome are heart defects. Morgan has a Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect and will require a full surgical repair once he has grown big enough and strong enough. On Sept 28, a stint was placed to help him maintain proper bloodflow and oxygen levels to his lungs. The procedure to place the stint was successful. However, shortly after the procedure, Morgan developed a severe blood infection.  Despite three different antibiotics, he is not responding to treatment for the infection. He has also developed a serious blood clotting disorder posing additional risks for survival. He is currently sedated, intubated and connected to a ventilator to help him breathe. Doctors have prepared Sally and James that in the best case scenario, Morgan will need to be at Arkansas Children’s for the foreseeable future.

Sister Challen was diagnosed with a developmental condition in her kidney called a Duplex Kidney, also called duplicated collecting system. She will be seen by doctors for more imaging and scans later this month. There is a small possibility of needing surgery to correct. Until then she is on antibiotics to help prevent any urinary tract infections.

Many friends and family (and friends of friends and family) have asked how they can help. With newborn twin sister Challen at home, Sally recovering from a C-section, and the need to be at the hospital everyday, James is not yet able to go back to work full-time. Any support provided through this GoFundMe will be used for basic living expenses, groceries, baby items, and gas to get to and from the hospital during this difficult time.

Additionally, this GoFundMe will serve as a place for the family to provide updates to everyone who wishes to follow Morgan’s progress. While Sally and James appreciate all of the messages and calls, please understand if they cannot respond right away or with many details. Therefore, we will be sure to post updates here as we can.

Whether you are able to donate or not, thank you for all of your kind words, best wishes, and prayers during this difficult time.
